The propane gas regulator is one of the most important parts of a propane gas system. The purpose of the regulator is to control the flow of gas and lower the pressure from the tank to the appliance(s) in the gas system. The regulator not only acts as a control regarding the flow and distribution of propane but also as a safety barrier between the high pressure of the tank and the end use appliance(s). Most will rightfully argue that the LP Gas regulator is the heart of any propane gas system.
“A regulator is a regulator” is a misleading statement that many consumers believe to be true. The fact is that installing the wrong kind of regulator will generally render a propane gas system inoperable. For example you cannot install a high pressure first stage regulator such as we have below in an already plumbed LP gas system. The regulators below take upwards of 100 pounds of pressure to even open and thus will not regulate or work in a system where there is not “tank pressure” of over this amount in front of it.

1). If you ordered a CK BASIC KIT: If you have a Basic Kit, do not replace the regulator as you will not be able to control it at all unless you do BOTH of the following: 1) Choose to substitute the included REGA+ in your kit to a REG5F+ below (table top applications where 5 ft high flames are NOT WANTED or NEEDED or a REG20F+ below (super duper flames are achievable up to 5 ft high); 2) And YOU ADD a Mini-Needle Valve NV14MF (have to click there and be purchased separately) to install into the end of it; to make it more “ambiance compatible” with consistent lower flames and capable of whatever the regulator will do as well. Will still have to be controlled at the tank side.
Not Cheap. SUPER HEAVY DUTY! And when you dont want to use a lighter (or can’t) these are perfect. Can be timer controlled, light switch activated, and throttled via a key valve (deluxe kit). If the flames go out, the AWEIS lights it back up.
